Thermostatic Valve (Keymark)

The thermostatic radiator valve

The use of thermostatic valves in heating allows a rational and effective temperature control in homes helping to reduce energy costs. The task of the thermostatic valve is to provide the heat supply in order to keep the temperature of a room to a preset value.

The temperature of each room can be adjusted individually based on its use. This way they can be conveniently exploited sources of energy "free" as the solar radiation and heat emitted from electronic equipment that may depend from room to room.

To ensure optimum operating performance and to avoid unnecessary costs and degradation, thermostatic valves must meet the following specifications (proven by KEYMARK certification scheme):

  • Characteristic curve of the opening and closing
  • Flow at different pressure differences
  • The influence of water temperature
  • The closing speed
  • Temperature resistance
  • Mechanical fatigue testing
  • Thermal fatigue tests
  • Etc.

The European mark KEYMARK is able to give producers the opportunity to convince customers of the quality of its products beyond national borders and support customers in their purchasing decisions.
The certification system for thermostatic valve is under the control of the CEN-certification for thermostatic valves (CCC 3).

SIET is recognised Testing Laboratory for TELL classification scheme for energy efficiency labelling of thermostatic radiator valves.

TELL (Thermostatic Efficiency Labelling) is a product classification system of the European thermostatic radiator valve industry, which:

  • fulfils the increasing and understandable desire of consumers, both in Europe and worldwide, for information and guidance in making a conscious purchasing decision
  • implements the industry's desire to promote responsible energy usage by consumers.

Reference Standards

The following standard forms the basis for the award of the KEYMARK / CENCER for thermostatic valves:
UNI EN 215 Thermostatic radiator valves - Requirements and test methods and monitoring by third parties

The third party surveillance: auditing and testing

SIET, as a Conformity Assessment Body accredited by ACCREDIA and Empowered Certification Body recognised by CEN with the register number 028, carries out the initial audit and, subsequently, the annual monitoring in accordance with the applicable requirements of the Certification Scheme. This activity took place at producer's factories requiring certification and who wish to maintain the certification of their thermostatic valves.

The initial and subsequent annual surveillance require that the SIET laboratory carries out all tests defined by the standards.

Only companies that have demonstrated compliance with the requirements of the Certification Scheme and whose products have passed the initial tests and / or surveillance are authorized to put and maintain the mark of conformity "KEYMARK" on their thermostatic radiator valves. In these conditions SIET, as a Conformity Assessment Body, would issue a Certificate of Compliance.

The names of all the companies holding certificates of conformity are published in the Certificate List. Suppliers, installers and consumers can freely access this list.
